Margaret Miller, 84

Margaret “Peggy” Miller, 84, of Bridgton, passed away Sunday, Jan. 27, 2019, at the Merriman House in North Conway, New Hampshire.

Born April 7, 1933, to Mildred and Lloyd Alexander in Portland, Maine, Peggy grew up on Kelley Street in South Portland. She graduated from South Portland High School and Fisher Junior College. She met her husband, Ken Miller, while skiing with friends and they married on March 21, 1959, in South Portland.

The couple skied all over the country and Canada, but considered Shawnee Peak their home. Peggy and Ken owned and operated the Pleasant Mountain Inn in Bridgton from the 1960s until 1988. The inn attracted many skiers and parents of nearby summer campers who became lifelong friends. At their home on Moose Pond, Peggy loved having the water in front and the ski area across the road in back. She then worked at Shawnee Peak and the Kezar Lake Country Club. After retiring, Peggy remained involved at the ski area and country club and enjoyed keeping up with her friends and the events and activities in the area.

Peggy leaves her son and daughter-in-law, David and Mary Miller, and grandchildren Hannah and Molly Miller, all of North Conway. She was predeceased by her husband, Ken; grandson David Jr.; parents; and two brothers, Milton and Elmer Alexander.

A celebration of life will be held at Shawnee Peak in the spring. The family would like to thank everyone at the Merriman House for their attentive care during the last year. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Merriman House, 3073 White Mountain Highway, North Conway, NH 03860, c/o Merriman House.
