RAYMOND — The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of an 87-year-old man from New Hartford, Conn.

William Prouty was found by his wife floating in the water of Crescent Lake in Raymond at about 9:25 a.m. Thursday morning, Sept. 6. The family owns a seasonal property on a small island on Crescent Lake.

Mr. Prouty had left to meet a maintenance worker on the mainland, and after not returning, Mrs. Prouty found William in the water near their dock. Mr. Prouty was recovered from the lake and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The case and manner of his death will be determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The circumstances surrounding Mr. Prouty’s death are not suspicious, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
