Madelyn A. Hunt

PORTLAND — Madelyn Amy Hunt passed away peacefully on Monday, Sept. 2, 2013, surrounded by her family.

She was born in Waterville on Oct. 11, 1921, to Amos and Minnie Higgins. She grew up in Augusta, where she met and married Bill Hunt on Jan. 2, 1941. They had four children: William H. Jr., Priscilla A. Mercier, Gregory W. and Eleanor R. Brown. They settled in Gorham in 1955.

Madelyn was always involved in the community. For years, she worked with Charlotte Millett in Camp Fire Girls, she volunteered with the school system, she was always collecting donations for various organizations such as the Cancer Society and Lung Association. She helped man the polls during many elections. She loved her Lord and served Him at Penny Memorial in Augusta in her youth, for years at Grace Baptist in Portland and most recently at Livingstone Community Church in Standish. At Grace, she taught in the AWANA Clubs, helped in Sunday school, and worked in the nursery. She loved children! Her crowning jewel was her family. When she knew there was a need, there was never a doubt that she would be there to help! She loved her family.

She was predeceased by her husband; her son, Gregory; and daughter, Priscilla.

She is survived by her son, Billy (Harry) of Leesburg, Fla.; her daughter, Eleanor of Denmark; eight grandchildren including Angela Brown Seavey of Denmark; and 13 great-grandchildren.
