Madeline I. Baldwin

SCARBOROUGH — A much loved mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend, Madeline Ivy “Maddy” Baldwin, 70, of Bridgton, passed away peacefully at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House on Nov. 29, 2018, with her family present. She had bravely confronted and fought a long-term illness with all the stubbornness she possessed.

Maddy was born on Dec. 22, 1947, to Randall and Arlene Thombs, and she grew up in Sebago, Maine. She often regaled her family with stories of the mischievous escapades with friends during her youth.

Maddy attended Potter Academy in Sebago, and after she graduated in 1965 she obtained an Associate Degree from Bliss College in 1967. She worked for many years at Grondin and Chandel, and then Chandel Associates, as a payroll clerk, where she was well-regarded by many in the community for her positive nature.

Maddy had a great love for children and animals. She enjoyed helping others and was granted a lifetime membership to Eastern Star. She was especially devoted to her family and her greatest joys in life were her grandchildren, Gavin and Violet.

She is survived by her mother, Arlene Thombs of Sebago; daughter Kim Howard and her husband Brian of Kittery; daughter Michelle McCulloch and her husband Scot of Sebago; daughter Megan Hoitt and her husband George of Bridgton; grandchildren, Gavin McCulloch and Violet Hoitt; and brother James Thombs and his wife Marlene of Bridgton.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 8, at 1:30 p.m. at Chandler Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, 8 Elm Street, Bridgton. Eastern Star Pondicherry Chapter 192 will participate as part of the service. Refreshments and a gathering of friends will follow at the Masonic Hall. A private burial will be held at a later date for family and close friends.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Madeline’s memory to the Harvest Hills Animal Shelter in Fryeburg, to care for the animals she so loved, or to the National Kidney Foundation to help support others dealing with kidney disease.
