Madaline B. Emerson, 84

WINDHAM — Madaline Blake Emerson, 84, died on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2015, at Ledgewood Manor surrounded by her family.

She was born in New Gloucester, the daughter of Fred B. and Muriel Stinchfield Blake. Mrs. Emerson attended schools in Gray-New Gloucester and graduated from the former Pennell Institute in 1948.

On July 20, 1951, she married Clifford B. Emerson and they lived, during their early years, on her family’s farm in New Gloucester. In 1963, she and her husband built their home on the River Road in Windham and raised their family.

From 1964 to 1965, she attended school and received her LPN degree, and then began working for the former Swampscotta Nursing Home and the Bennett’s Nursing Home, both in Windham.

In 1968, Mrs. Emerson worked for GTE Sylvania until her retirement in 1998, when she returned to nursing school and received her registered nursing license.

With her RN, she went to work for the former Falmouth Residential Care and the present Casco Inn (formerly Thomas House) in Casco, retiring in 2000.

Mrs. Emerson’s enjoyments included sewing, camping, cooking, NASCAR, country fairs, Old Home Days, working with the elderly (“after all, someone has to take care of those old people”) and square dancing, but her true enjoyment was her grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband in 2001; brothers, Everett and Herbert Blake; and sister, Hazel Files.

She is survived by her five sons, David W. Emerson of Casco, Stanlee P. Emerson of Windham, Roland S. Emerson of Woodstock, Ga., Robert L. Emerson of Vermont and James A. Emerson of Windham; a sister, Colleen Anderson of Delton, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be Friday, Feb. 27, 2015, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Dolby Funeral Chapel, 434 River Road, followed by a 7 p.m. funeral service at the chapel. Spring burial will be in Arlington Cemetery, Windham. For online condolences, please visit www.dolbyfuneralchapels.com
