Local 10U softball team wins state title, next stop Regionals

Five local girls — Kasey Johnson, Melissa Mayo, Kathryn McIntyre, Caydence Riley and Emily Rock of Bridgton — are headed to the New England Regional Babe Ruth 10U softball tournament in Stamford, Conn. as members of the Andy Valley 10U all star team that won the state championship last week.

After a tough 18-17 loss versus Brunswick in the opening game of the state tournament, Andy Valley regrouped to win the next seven games and clinch the state championship title.

The team is coached by Amy Mayo, Kelly Johnson and Tracy Smith.

What’s next? Because the girls won the state championship, they have earned the right to represent the State of Maine in the New England Regional 10U Tournament in Stanford, Conn., July15-19.
