Olivia Mills of Casco has been selected as the area Lions Clubs’ “Student of the Month” for April.

Each month, area Lions Clubs recognize a Lake Region High School senior who has excelled academically. The recipient is honored at a Lions’ dinner meeting and is presented a monetary award.

What do you like most about school, why? Any science related class.

What is your biggest challenge in school? I am currently taking my second college course and I find it both challenging and rewarding.

What is your favorite subject, and why? I especially enjoy physics and all the interesting labs.

If you could change one thing about school, what would it be (and why)? I would want more time for taking multiple college courses.

What characteristics do you believe a good teacher should possess? Passion for what they do, ability to bring real-life into their teaching, and respect for their students.

What goals did you hope to achieve during your high school days? To do well in all of my coursework, get accepted into an excellent college, and to prepare well for my college career.

What do you hope to do in the future in terms of career, and why are you headed in that direction? I have always loved animals, science and the environment. I have chosen to major in Wildlife Ecology at UMaine because it encompasses all of my passions. My plans are to obtain a graduate degree in this discipline and to work as either a park ranger, game warden or in research of endangered species.

What do you think it will take to be successful in the future? Diligent attention to my studies, seeking opportunities for internships, and a passion for what I am pursuing.

What lesson have you learned while at Lake Region High School that will help you in the future? Managing my time between high school coursework, college coursework, after school activities, and a part-time job.
