Sarah Hancock of Casco has been selected as the area Lions Clubs’ “Student of the Month” for September.
Each month, area Lions Clubs recognize a Lake Region High School senior who has excelled academically. The recipient is honored at a Lions’ dinner meeting and is presented a monetary award.

What is your favorite class? My favorite class is Teens Without Borders because I love giving back to our community and to the world.
What is your toughest class? My toughest class is AP Literature & Composition because I am not very creative when it comes to writing.
How do you balance your class work and your extracurricular activities? It is one thing I do struggle with, but I try to prioritize. I ask myself what is most important and what needs to be done first.
What is the biggest challenge high school students face today? Sleep deprivation has to be the biggest challenge facing high school students today. Students wake up in the morning before the sun does, we are at school all day and after school most students have activities they are a part of. Depending on the activity, we return home very late with just enough time to eat, do homework, go to bed and wake up and do it all again the next day. By Friday, students are fried.
Who has inspired you educationally? When I was younger, my parents stressed the importance of getting good grades. I knew, from kindergarten, that I always had to do my best in school. My two older cousins, Abby and Sydney Hancock, were good students in high school and I have always looked up to them. I saw they took honors and AP classes so I wanted to take honors and AP classes too. My family has played a huge role in inspiring me, not only academically, but in everything I do.
