SOUTH PORTLAND — Lillian F. Sanborn, 88, passed away on Monday, Dec. 2, 2013.

She was born in 1925 in Portland, the daughter of Sadie Sinnett and Earl Shapland. She attended local schools, and upon her mother’s death in 1936, moved to Normal, Ill., to live with cousins. She later attended State College.

She returned to Portland in 1943 and worked in the print shop at the shipyard, and from there to the U.S. Navy as a civilian employee in Washington, D.C.

In 1946, she moved to Honolulu, Hawaii to reside with her father, who had lived there a number of years.

She married Metro Uhas of Shenandoah, Pa., in Honolulu in 1947, and they returned to South Portland in 1948. Metro died in 1970.

Lillian later married Harold M. Sanborn and they lived on Wells Road in Cape Elizabeth, where they grew and sold rock garden plants for 17 years.

Lillian leaves three sons, Michael Uhas of Lyndeborough, N.H., Andrew Uhas of North Baldwin and John Uhas of Atlanta, Ga.; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Burial will be at the Maine Veterans’ Cemetery in Augusta. Arrangements were made by the Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given in her memory to the Animal Refuge League or Ronald McDonald House for the Maine Medical Center.
