Lillian F. Richard

MEXICO — Lillian Filiault Richard, 95, of Mexico, died March 23, 2012 at her home.

She was born Feb. 26, 1917, on Waldo Street, Rumford, the daughter of Roseanna Dubois and Origene Filiault.

She graduated from Stephens High School in 1935. She married Ivan Richard on July 8, 1940, and they shared 60 years of marriage. She was a communicant of St. Theresa’s Church in Mexico.

Lillian worked at Dorion’s Market before her marriage and in the food service programs at St. Theresa’s School and SAD 43, retiring in 1982. She was a charter member of the Mexico Mothercraft Club and a member of the Daughters of Isabella and Red Hat Society. She was an active volunteer throughout her life, first as a Brownie Troop leader and later supporting her children at Mexico High School through the music boosters and as a seamstress for many high school musicals.

Her passion for knitting started with knitting gloves for servicemen in World War II and continued with making hundreds of pairs of mittens and hats for Santa’s Helpers. She and Ivan enjoyed their retirement years traveling across the country and throughout Canada and visiting the British Isles. They wintered for many years in Honolulu and made lasting friends from around the world on Waikiki Beach.

She was a devoted wife, mother and memere, who fostered a love of reading in her family, supported them in all of their educational pursuits and life goals and was very proud of their accomplishments.

Surviving are her children, Martha Peters of Sanford, Peg Richard of Portland, Barbara MacGregor of Rumford, Norma Richard of Raymond, Susan Richard of Mexico and Terry Richard of Dixfield; her beloved nine grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.

She was predeceased by her husband, Ivan Richard; son, Michael Richard; a grandson; and her siblings, Buster Filiault, Muriel Cantara and Bernice Walker.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 31, at Parish of the Holy Savior, with a reception to follow in the parish hall.

A joy in her last years was her beloved money cat, Minou, and Lillian requested that donations in her memory be made to McKennel’s Animal Adoption Agency, 88 Hall Hill Road, Rumford, ME 04276.
