SEBAGO — Lewis R. Newton, 88, of 18 Baldwin Road, Sebago, died Friday, March 20, 2015, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice in Auburn.

Born in Dummerston, Vt., on Nov. 18, 1926, he was the son of Roswell Albert and Lola Belle Johnson Newton.

Educated in Vermont schools, he was a graduate of Brattleboro High School, Class of ’44. Immediately upon graduation, he joined the U.S. Army and served in the waning days of World War II. After returning to civilian life, he married the former Alice Nelda Corbett on July 26, 1948. Mrs. Newton passed away on Sept. 22, 2008. Prior to his retirement he was a printer and worked for many years at The Book Press in Brattleboro, and later as the press room supervisor at R. R. Donnelley in Harrisonburg, Va.

A member of the Dummerston Congregational Church, he also belonged to the Clan Murray Society and the American Legion. After his retirement, Lewis enjoyed making walking canes and attending Scottish Highland Festivals. Lewis and Nelda were active in their church communities both in Vermont and in Leesburg, Fla., and volunteered delivering Meals on Wheels.

Survivors include three sons, Douglas and wife Susan of Sebago, Bruce of Bradenton, Fla., and Jeffery and wife Rebecca of Chester, Va.; seven grandchildren, Joseph and wife Keri of Dummerston, Vt., Christopher and wife Ashley of Middlefield, Conn., Jared of Sebago, Gregory of Fort Collins, Colo., Jessica and husband Will Patterson of Alexandria, Va., Sarah of Fond du Lac, Wis., and Seth and partner Carolyn Ellis of Sebago; and four great-grandchildren. Besides his parents and loving wife, he was predeceased by a sister, Helen Newton Wright.
