Lester Huntress

STANDISH – Lester C. Huntress, 88, of Standish died on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at Maine Medical Center in Portland with his loving family by his side.

He was born in Cornish on March 19, 1929, a son of Western and Grace (Sargent) Huntress and was educated in local schools. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Lester worked as a young man in local sawmills including J.R. Mains in Bridgton. He later worked over 20 years for the Lake Region School District as a school bus driver and custodian.

Lester loved music and was well known for being a musician and a singer. He sang with Truth and Teens in many churches as a younger man and later was the singer for Howard Allen and the Troubadors, as well as The New England Country Boys. He was also an avid Red Sox fan. Above all, he loved spending time with his family.

He is predeceased by a son, David Huntress, who died in 2003, as well as several brothers and sisters.

Surviving are his longtime companion, Linda Sellick of Standish; a son, Paul Sellick of Limington; a daughter, Sheryl Hamlin of Bridgton; a brother, Glen Huntress of Bridgton; members of Linda’s family and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A graveside service was held on May 7 at 11 a.m. at Friendship Cemetery on Route 114, in Standish. Arrangements were handled by Watson, Neal & York Funeral Home.
