DENMARK — Leonard C. Field, 89, died peacefully at his home on Thursday, June 26, 2014 with loving friends at his side.

Leonard was born in Nashua, N.H., on Dec. 6, 1924. He was the son of James and Madeline (Classon) Field.

Leonard attended art school in Boston, where he became a very talented sketch artist and painter. Immediately after graduating, he was hired by an advertising firm in Boston. Leonard soon felt this job did not offer him the opportunity to show his true talent. During this time, he met his partner-to-be, William “Bill” Mason, who was also a talented artist. Soon after, Leonard and Bill went into business together as jewelry designers and craftsman. They opened their first store in Winchester, Mass. Leonard designed the jewelry; Bill crafted the pieces and soon had a flourishing business, which lasted for many years.

Leonard vacationed in the Bridgton area during the summers of his childhood. The love of the area brought him back to Maine. He and Bill bought a farmhouse in Denmark, where they lived for many years, creating art and beautiful flower gardens.

Leonard had a love of opera and listened faithfully to the Metropolitan Opera radio broadcasts.

Bill predeceased Leonard in 2010. Their ashes will be spread on a favorite field by a gathering of close friends.
