Leckie, Hennessy dominate Clash

SOUTH HIRAM — Doe Leckie is hardly your average hurdler.

“What sets Doe apart is her quickness and possibly her determination.  I have not seen an athlete so quick over the hurdles before,” Lake Region varsity track & field coach Mark Snow said. “She needs quickness because she takes four steps between hurdles. Most elite hurdlers only take three steps.”

Doe has shown LR coaches Snow and Dana Caron “to be a prime-time performer, often rising up for the bigger meets.”

The LR senior rose to the occasion last week when she set a new school record in the 100-meter hurdles with a winning time of 15.8 seconds. She may not be finished.

“I predict the school record will go down again this weekend (at the Western Maine Conference Championships). The question is by how much,” Coach Snow said.

Leckie added a first place finish in the 300-meter hurdles as Lake Region captured the girls’ Tri-County Clash title.

Meanwhile, Sage Hennessy of Fryeburg Academy won three speed events — 100 meters, 200 meters and 400 meters — as the Raiders placed third. Host Sacopee Valley was second while Waynflete was fourth.
