NAPLES — Lawrence Winfield Lewis, 96, died at his home on Thursday, Nov. 6, 2014, surrounded by his family.
Lawrence was born in Porter on Aug. 8, 1918, the son of Ernest and Evie Lewis.
Lawrence served in the Army in Panama, and re-enlisted to join the invasion of Normandy at Omaha Beach, where he earned a Purple Heart.
After the war, he moved to Naples where he married his wife of 52 years and raised two children. He worked in the woods for many years and also at the Keddy Steel Mill in South Windham.
Lawrence was a master fisherman. Fish feared him. He loved the outdoors, animals and working in his garden.
He is survived by his wife, Celia Lewis; his son, Lawrence E. Lewis; daughter, Barbara J. Hunt; three granddaughters; four step grandchildren; and four step great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours were held on Monday, Nov. 10. Funeral services were on Tuesday, Nov. 11, at Hall Funeral Home, 165 Quaker Ridge Road, Casco.
