SANFORD — Laura Lee Bowden, 76, of Sanford, passed away on Monday, May 28, 2018, surrounded by family.

She was born in Portland on Oct. 6, 1941, a daughter of the late Solomon Brown and Martha Newcomb.

Laura Lee graduated from Berkshire Christian College and then went on to earn her master’s degree. She was employed by the Kittery school system as a teacher. After her retirement from teaching, she went on to be the minister for the Auburn Advent Christian Church. She will always be remembered for her love of family and the Lord. She was very active in church activities and ministry.

Laura Lee is predeceased by her sisters, Hilda, Lorraine and Alois.

She is survived by her children, Bethanie Boomsma of Westbrook, Bonnie Boomsma-Hall of Casco and Brian Bowden of Springvale; siblings, Viola Emery of Nevada and Robert Brown of South Portland; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A funeral service was held on Wednesday, June 6, at noon at Goodwins Mills Advent Christian Church, 498 Goodwins Mills Road in Dayton. Burial followed at 2 p.m. at Forest City Cemetery in South Portland.
