FRYEBURG — Liam LaMountain had been here before.

One right answer and he would be Molly Ockett Middle School’s Geo Bee champion.

Q. The pantun is a type of poetry in areas of Malay-speaking populations, including Malaysia and what neighboring island country that straddles the Equator?

Do you know the answer?

Liam did.

Answer: Indonesia.

It proved to be an exciting day on Wednesday, Dec. 22 at Molly Ockett Middle School as students squared off in the annual Geo Bee. The question’s focus ranged from U.S. Geography to Physical Geography to Fresh Water to Cultural Geography. All students did a fantastic job with the last few rounds in a head-to-head competition between Matthew Boucher and Liam LaMountain.

With the victory, Liam will now complete a test to see if he is one of the top 100 Geography Bee students in Maine. If he is, he will then compete in early spring at the state level and maybe even on to the National Geography Bee.

“Great job to all,” MOMS staff said. “Best of luck to Liam!”
