BIDDEFORD — Kurt David Sewell, 51, of Biddeford, passed away peacefully on Friday, Dec. 19, 2014, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough after a sudden illness.
Kurt had a full life and shared his smiling blue grey eyes, "funny noises" and memorable phrases with everyone he met. His passions in life were his conversations with others, sharing and adding to his “coin collection” and using them in his jackpot and his magic rock collection.
His life's mission appears to have been to teach us all to take time to really know and enjoy the uniquenesses we all have to share. His strength, determination and perseverance throughout his life's journey will forever be remembered by his loving siblings and their families: Lindy Sewell Cluff, Sherman Sewell, Alan Sewell, Thomas Sewell, Susan Richards Finch, Michael Richards, Donna Richards Cotton, Cathie Richards Hill, and Daniel and John Richards, Uncle Richard "Dick" Sewell and his wife, Kim Gordon, and several nieces, nephews, and nephew Kyle Cluff with whom he had a special relationship. Most importantly, Kurt will be remembered by a wonderful group of patient, supportive and caring professional caretakers and agencies throughout the State of Maine, including Elizabeth Levinson Center, Bangor; LEAF, Fairfield; Hilltop in Waterville; Waban in Sanford; and for the past 16 years, "his home" at Community Partners Greenhill Residence and Creative Works Systems of Biddeford.
Kurt was predeceased by his parents, William “Bill” Sherman Sewell and Margaret “Peg” B. Sewell, and parents, Dr. A. Dewey Richards and Emily Richards.
A "Don't Break My Heart Darlin’" celebration was held at Johnson Funeral Home, 26 Market Street, North Berwick, on Monday, Dec. 22, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., with a prayer service at 5:30 p.m. In honor of Kurt, guests were requested to wear bright blue, his favorite color.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests a memorial donation in his name to Community Partners Greenhill Residence, 1 Green Street, Biddeford, ME 04005, or to the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, 11 Hunnewell Road, Scarborough, ME 04074, in appreciation for the amazing relief they bring to families and loved ones.
