Kevin J. Millett, 44

PORTLAND – Kevin James Millett, 44, of Waterford, passed away peacefully at Maine Medical Center in Portland on Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2018.

Kevin was born in Bangor on Dec. 5, 1973, the son of Barbara (Shaw) and Sawin Millett. He was the youngest of five children and spent the last 41 years of his life living on the family farm in Waterford.

He attended elementary schools in Harrison, Waterford and Paris and graduated from Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School (OHCHS) in 1992, where he was an outstanding student and played on the baseball, basketball and football teams. After high school, Kevin attended the University of Southern Maine in his freshman year and then transferred to Southern Maine Technical College in the fall of 1993, where he enrolled in the Culinary Arts program. Following the sudden death of his sister Karla in December of 1993, Kevin left college and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Following his Marine Corps service, Kevin worked in a variety of jobs within the Oxford Hills area, including time spent in the manufactured housing industry, restaurant management, automobile sales, working with developmentally delayed adults and — always, in his spare time — working on the family farm. In all of these occupations, he demonstrated amazing skills in working with people and with his hands. He was a strategic thinker and took great pride in his work.

In 2000, Kevin and the “love of his life,” Angela Jutras, of Hebron, brought into this world an amazing son, whom they named Jamison Sawin Millett. Jamison — now 18 and a senior at OHCHS — was raised by his father following the tragic death of Angela in 2004. Jamison was his father’s “pride and joy” and is a remarkable young man with the compassion, maturity and wisdom of a person twice his age, given the loss of both parents at such a young age.

Kevin was predeceased by his sister, Karla.

He is survived by his parents of Waterford; brothers Kenneth of Winthrop and Kerry of Hammonton, N.J.; sister Kathy Ventrone of Tucson, Ariz.; 10 nieces and nephews; six grandnieces and grandnephews; a great aunt and multiple aunts, uncles and cousins on both the Millett and Shaw sides of his family, all of whom were very special to Kevin.

A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018, at the Chandler Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 45 Main Street, South Paris. Interment will be in the spring at the Woodlawn Cemetery in North Waterford next to Angela in the family plot.

His family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to Jamison S. Millett’s account at TD Bank at the Oxford Plaza and/or by mail to Jamison at 86 Deer Hill Road, Waterford, ME, 04088.
