Joyce A. Bean, 75

 

PORTLAND – Joyce Ann Bean, 75, of Norway, died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2016 at Maine Medical Center in Portland with her family by her side.

She was born on Sept. 29, 1940, in Harrison, a daughter of Almon and Hattie (Hapgood) Harmon Sr.

Joyce worked virtually all of her adult working life in the shoe manufacturing business as a hand sewer. She worked at the former Mt. Pleasant Moccasin, J.R. Mains Co, and other various shops and local mills as a younger woman.
 She enjoyed cooking, canning various fruits and vegetables, and feeding and watching the birds from her window, but her favorite endeavor was the care of her beloved flower gardens
.

Joyce is survived by her sons, Walter Bean and George Poppell; stepchildren, Tracey Robitaille, Tammy McAllister, James Bean, Steven Hatch, Brenda Warren, Christine Allen, Darlene Locke and Michael Hatch; a sister, Helena Westleigh; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents; husbands, Lawrence Johnson, Lamar S. Poppell in 1978 and Leon P. Bean in 1999; a stepson Tony Bean in 2014; her fiancé, Leonard L. Hatch in 2015; brothers, David Harmon Sr. and Almon F. Harmon Jr.

Memorial graveside services will be held in the spring when the flowers begin to blossom at the Elm Vale Cemetery in South Waterford, day and time to be announced.
