Joseph Knight

Joseph Knight

Joseph E. “Joe” Knight, 57, of Bridgton, died late Thursday morning, April 14, 2016, at the Bridgton Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on March 15, 1959, in Portland, a son of Leonard E. and Isabell E. (Ridlon) Knight.

At an early age he moved with his parents to Meriden, Conn., where he attended schools.

After his schooling, Joe worked for Charles Parker and Sargent Manufacturing in Connecticut for over 16 years.

He and his parents returned to Maine in 2001, settling in his hometown of Bridgton, where he continued to work independently as a subcontractor for Sargent until 2012.

Ever the outdoorsman, Joe was a member of the NRA and loved to be in the out-of-doors, hunting and especially fishing. It has been said that Joe “didn't actually go fishing, he went catching,” and that he “only worked to be able to go fishing.” Whether it was on a quiet freshwater pond or lake in and around Bridgton, or the depths of the Atlantic, he just plain and simply caught fish.

Joe will be forever loved by his parents, Len and Issy of Bridgton; his “brother,” Cliff “HP” Grabowski and his wife, Lynn of Meriden, Conn.; his “sister,” Loretta Massey and her husband, Stephen of Bridgton; many special aunts and uncles including his beloved Uncle Lloyd Kimball of Poland.

Family and friends attended a time of visitation from 1 to 3 p.m., Sunday, April 17 at the Chandler Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 8 Elm St., Bridgton. Memorial graveside services will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, April 24 at Forest Hills Annex in Bridgton. Gifts may be given in Joe’s memory to Harvest Hills Animal Shelter, 1389 Bridgton Rd., Fryeburg, ME 04037. Words of condolence and tribute may be shared with Joe’s family at www.chandlerfunerals.com
