On October 22, 2020, Jonah Reece Simmons of Naples, Me., was called upon by the Lord to fish and hunt with him in heaven.

Jonah, 26 years old at his passing, was born in Portland, Me., to Jason (Jay) Simmons and Maureen (Mo) Simmons on August 29, 1994. Jonah graduated from Lake Region High School and worked in construction and contracting. Jonah loved hunting, fishing, racing, welding, working on vehicles, “sendin’ it” and “raisin’ hell.” His happiness was infectious, he was always willing to help a friend, he wore his heart on his sleeve, and he loved telling stories. He lived rough, he worked hard and he loved deeply. Jonah had a shy smile, a child-like laugh, and a warm heart which brightened so many lives and he will be missed by all who knew him.

Jonah is survived by his father Jason (Jay) Simmons of Naples; brother Zach Simmons of Maine, brother Boomer Simmons of Sabattus; stepmother Jennifer Simmons of Naples, Me.; paternal grandmother Stephanie George of Biddeford; maternal grandmother Barbara McInnis of Bridgton; step-grandparents David and Theresa Edwards of Naples, Me.; aunt and uncle Leah and Chris Simmons of Saco, aunt and uncle Dana and Josh George of Gibsonia, Penn., aunt and uncle Bailey and Caleb George of North Attleboro, Mass.; step-aunt and uncle Michelle and David Edwards of Durham, Me.; and cousins Taylor and Payton Simmons, Finnegan and Brooks George, and Connor George.

Jonah was predeceased by his mother, Maureen (Mo) Simmons; paternal grandfather Joel George; maternal grandfather Michael McInnis.

One of Jonah’s favorite memories was a family celebration called “last kid Christmas” where all the presents were children’s toys that were later donated to a local toy fund. Jonah was excited while opening toy trucks, Legos, and even an Easy Bake Oven. Jonah loved kids, and loved being able to give back so in honor of Jonah’s memory, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, please consider donating a toy or adopting a family for Christmas this year.

Due to current restrictions there will be no viewing, and the family will be having a private service at this time. A celebration of life may be planned at a later date.
