John Welcome McConkey, 68, of Denmark passed away on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016 after a long illness

He was born in Bridgton on Nov. 18, 1947 and graduated from Bridgton High School. Shortly after high school, John entered the U.S. Army. John worked with his family at their store in Naples, “McConkey’s Market.” He loved the environment at the store, which enabled him to socialize with people on a daily basis. Everyone enjoyed being around John. John also worked as a machinist at Yankee Machine in Casco and Pratt & Whitney in South Berwick. He ended his career working for the Westbrook School Department.

John loved people, family, Harley-Davidson motorcycles and NASCAR. John was a great cook and an active member of the Naples VFW.

John is survived by his fiancée of seven years, Melanie (Rogers) Lewis of Denmark; his son, John Spearin; five brothers, Walter McConkey of Michigan, Ricky and Scott McConkey, both of Naples, Dana McConkey of Bridgton and Brett McConkey of Fryeburg; his sister, Judy Priest of Texas; and many nieces and nephews.

John is predeceased by his parents, Richard J. and Shirley R. McConkey; as well as his wife of 28 years, Jackie (Wright) McConkey.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016 at the Murch Cemetery in South Casco. Online condolences may be left for the family at hallfuneralhomeinc.com
