John M. Koval Sr.

BRUNSWICK — John "Jack" M. Koval Sr., 75, of Durham, died Monday, Sept. 6, 2010 at Mid Coast Hospital, with his family at his side.

He was born in Trenton, N.J., on April 18, 1935, a son of the late John Joseph and Martha Koval. He was educated in Trenton and graduated from Trenton High Class of 1953. He married the love of his life, Elizabeth (Betty) Krause, on March 1, 1956. He worked for many years as an electrician for B.I.W. He was a member of Holy Trinity Parish. He enjoyed trips to Atlantic City and his daily scratch tickets. He was known as "Grampy" to many and was also known as "The John Wayne" of Durham. He will be missed for his sarcasm and his ability to make you laugh.

He leaves his wife of 54 years, Betty (Boop) of Durham; four daughters, Pat Freeman, Joan Koval, Debbie Koval and Donna Koval, all of Durham; a son, Lawrence Koval of Raymond; a brother, Larry Koval of N.J.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; many favorite nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son, John Michael Koval Jr.; a daughter, Barbara Ann Koval; a grandson; and a sister, Marty Wilke.

Visitation was at Crosman Funeral Home in Lisbon Falls on Wednesday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Trinity Parish Thursday at 11 a.m. Committal will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
