John M. Enman Jr.

AUBURN — John M. Enman Jr., 81, of Avon, died suddenly at his home on Monday, Nov. 1, 2010.
He was born on May 15, 1929, in Jefferson, N.H., the son of John M. and Maude (Woodard) Enman Sr. of Canton. In 1954, he married Betty Ruth Porter of Peru. They made their home in Canton and Avon where they raised four children.
John had a very strong work ethic and was truly a “Jack of all trades” and “master of many.” He could fix anything and if he couldn’t find a part or a tool he would often manufacture what he needed.
He started his career working on his father’s farm at a very young age and also worked with him as a finish carpenter. He worked as a heavy equipment operator and a mechanic for his father-in-law, Waldo Porter in Peru before moving to Avon where he worked for many years for Ernest Pinkham Logging, Rowes Garage, Bucky’s Garage and for himself with his son, John Enman III, in the woods. He plowed roads for the town of Avon and finished his working career with GAC Logging in Avon. He kept very busy in his retirement tinkering in his garage for family and friends.
John is survived by his children, Ruth Jackson of Lewiston, Shirley Johnstone of Raymond, Philip Enman of Farmington and John Enman III of Phillips; several grandchildren; several great- grandchildren; a brother, Randall Enman of Dixfield; and a sister, Edith Pettengill of Canton.
He was predeceased by his wife, Betty on July 20, 2008; and a granddaughter.
Memorial graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 5, 2010, at the Demerritt Cemetery in Peru, with the Rev. Richard Waddell, officiating. Arrangements are in the care of the Wiles Funeral Home, Cremation Service & Remembrance Center, 137 Farmington Falls Road, Farmington.
