John J. Porter

SEBAGO — John J. Porter, 47, of Sebago died unexpectedly on March 4, 2012 at Bridgton Hospital.

He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on June 24, 1964, the son of Frederick and Maria Benki Porter. He attended New York schools and graduated from Franklin K. Lane High School in Jamaica, Queens in 1982. He moved to Maine and attended Southern Maine Vocational Technical Institute in South Portland and obtained an associate’s degree in carpentry.

He married his beloved wife Tracey on June 20, 1991.

John worked for many years as a builder in Sebago and the surrounding area, owning and operating John J. Porter Carpentry and Remodeling.

He loved the outdoors, and enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He enjoyed trips to Rangeley and to Bar Harbor. John was also an avid sports fan. He played many sports and also coached in several area youth leagues in several different sports. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father and son. He enjoyed spending time with his loving family more than anything and will be sadly missed by them as well as many friends.

Surviving are his wife, Tracey Porter of Sebago; his parents, Frederick and Maria Porter of Sebago; two sons, Shane and Luke Porter of Sebago; a brother, Steven Porter of Naples; a sister, Dawn Halegua of Long Island, N.Y.; and seven nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be on Thursday, March 8, from 4 to 7 p.m., immediately followed by a funeral service at 7 p.m., at the First Free Will Baptist Church, 62 Parker Farm Road in Buxton. Pastor J. Trent Boyd will officiate. Burial will be in Sebago later in the spring. Arrangements are by Watson, Neal & York Funeral Home, Cornish.
