John E. Emery, 89

FRYEBURG — John E. Emery, 89, of Fryeburg, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2014, at home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born to Charles E. and Reta Adams Emery at the family home in North Fryeburg on Sept. 18, 1925, and attended the one-room schoolhouse in North Fryeburg.

He began working in his early teens with his father on the family dairy farm. After his father’s death in 1957, John continued to operate the dairy farm until the late 60s.

John was a truck driver, a career that he thoroughly enjoyed, always loyal and hardworking. His first job was with Laconia Creamery in the mid 40s. He later worked for Jewett Transportation followed by Bennett Transportation, driving a milk truck. In the early 50s, John began working for Swan’s Express, serving them for almost thirty-five years. He also worked a short time for Just Cabinets before he took a job with Lovell Lumber as their truck driver. He worked for Lovell Lumber for 17 years until he finally retired in Jan. 2005, after suffering a heart attack.

John enjoyed woodworking and camping — especially at Flying Point in Freeport and Littlefield Beaches in Bethel — and loved his family vacations at Disney World. He and Margie had the opportunity to enjoy a trip aboard the Scotia Prince to celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary, a gift from his children. John was a devoted husband of sixty-five years to his wife, Marjorie, who passed shortly before him on April 18, 2014. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

John is survived by his children, Sheryl Shackley and her husband Leon, Joanne Pandora and her husband David, David Emery and his wife Jennifer, Reta Parmenter and her husband Skip, along with seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. John will also be remembered by his sister, Leona Mains, and his brother, Philip Emery, as well as many nieces and nephews.
