John E. Durfee

John Edward Durfee, 67, of Bridgton died peacefully on Sunday, Dec. 12, 2010 at Hospice House in Auburn after a brief battle with pulmonary fibrosis.

He was born in Bridgton on June 7, 1943. John was a local barber for 40 plus years. Even after his diagnosis, he thrived on being at his barbershop because he enjoyed his customers and the many stories told. He shared his love of harness racing, classic cars, Corvettes and playing a good game of cribbage and cards with his devoted, loyal customers and friends.

John was in the military from 1967-1970, serving his country in Germany.

John was predeceased by a son and a grandson; two brothers, Billy and Richie; and his parents, Gertrude and Curatio Durfee.

Survivors include his longtime girlfriend of 12 years Lisa Saindon of Bridgton; two daughters, Stacy Durfee Morrell and Kelly Durfee, both of Mechanic Falls; five stepchildren, Angela Mullaney of Virginia Beach, Paul Ward of South Paris, Spike Ward of Waterford, Theresa Ridlon of Bridgton and Sherri Davidson of North Fryeburg; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild; a brother, Kenneth Durfee of Bridgton; five sisters, June Haley and Shirley Durfee of Bridgton, Barbara Hartford of Delaware, Brenda LeBlock of Delaware and Maxine Lyons of New York.

A celebration of his life will be held at the Masonic Hall in Bridgton on Friday, Dec. 17 from 4 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s name can be made to the American Lung Association, 122 State Street, Augusta, ME 04330 for further research on pulmonary fibrosis.
