John C. Allen Jr., 63

ERROL, N.H. — John C. Allen Jr., 63, of Errol, N.H., and formerly of Gray, died unexpectedly on Sunday afternoon, Feb. 17, 2013, in Pittsburg, N.H., as a result of injuries received in a snowmobile accident.

He was born on Nov. 11, 1949, in Bridgton, a son of the late John and Catherine (Duraiche) Allen. He was raised in Bridgton and graduated from Bridgton High School in 1969. He then served his country as a “Screaming Eagle” with the 101st Airborne Division of the U.S. Army.

After his military service, John returned to Maine, and spent a career in the transportation industry. For 17 years, he was co-owner of Wagon Masters in Scarborough.

He was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hunt, fish, ride his ATVs and go snowmobiling. For many years, he spent his weekends in Errol building his eventual retirement home in the area of northern NH that he had come to love. John retired in 2011 and moved to Errol at that time.

He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Maureen E. (Maguire) Allen of Errol, N.H.; his son, Jason; his daughter, Tessica; two brothers, David Allen and Mark Gallagher; a grandson; and his beloved canine companion, Izzy.

There will be no public calling hours. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 23, at 11 a.m. at the Errol Congregational Church in Errol, N.H.
