John Descoteaux

STANDISH — John Austin Descoteaux Sr., 82, of Standish, died on Monday, April 24, 2017, at his home after a long illness.

He was born on April 12, 1935, a son of Alphonse and Cecelia (Roche) Descoteaux. He attended local schools and graduated from Biddeford High School.

John proudly served in the U.S. Navy for over 20 years as a radioman. He later worked for many years as an electrician at Bath Iron Works, from where he retired.

He was a longtime member of the Smith-Tobey American Legion Post #21 in Bath, where he was Commander for several years. He was also a member of the Sebago Lions Club. John enjoyed hunting and fishing, as well as golfing and bowling. He enjoyed traveling as well, especially his four trips to Las Vegas with his wife Barbara. He will be sadly missed by all who loved him.

He was predeceased by a brother, Mitchell Descoteaux of Wakefield, Mass. Surviving are his wife of 30 years, Barbara Descoteaux of Standish; two sons, John Descoteaux Jr. and wife Susan of Brunswick, and Michael Descoteaux of Quincy, Illinois; two stepsons, Derek Goodwin of Westbrook, and Douglass Goodwin of Bath; three grandchildren, Michelle Bateman, Olivia Goodwin and Austin Goodwin; and also two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
