Joan Cragin

HARRISON — Joan M. Cragin, 82, of Harrison, died peacefully at her home on Friday, March 28, 2014 with her sister at her side.

Born in Houlton on Aug. 16, 1931, she was the daughter of Adolphus S. and Julia I. (Hood) Crawford. Joan was raised on Peaks Island, attended the former Peaks Island Elementary School and was a graduate of Portland High School. After high school, she attended the former Gorham State Teachers College in Gorham and was employed as a teacher’s aide for a number of years.

Her interest included knitting, sewing and crocheting. Joan also hand made clothing for the American Girl Doll.

Her husband, Ernest G. Cragin, predeceased her on Aug. 29, 1998.

Survivors include her stepson, Walter K. Cragin of Westbrook; a sister, Sue I. Bennett, of Columbus Ohio; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.

There are no visiting hours. A memorial service was held on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at the Dolby Funeral Chapel, 434 River Road, Windham. Burial will be on the family lot at Woodlawn Cemetery, Westbrook.
