SOUTH PORTLAND — Jennie M. Cook, 85, of South Portland, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2016, at Maine Medical Center.

She was born in Queens, N.Y. on Sept. 10, 1930, a daughter of Hiram and Lillian (Parker) Polk. She moved to Eastport as a child and attended Eastport schools. She married Samuel J. Cook in July 1947, in Lubec. The family moved to Portland in 1954. Jennie worked for Holmes Fish Packing, Jordan’s Meats and Fairchild Semiconductor. She retired in 1998 after 30 years at Fairchild.

She enjoyed visiting Atlantic City casinos, playing bingo, and trips to Boston and New York to cheer for the Yankees.

She is predeceased by her husband and a brother, Emery Polk.

She is survived by a daughter, Helena V. Cook of Standish; three sons, Dennis J. Cook of Windham, Wayne A. Cook of South Portland and Stephen K. Cook of South Portland; a sister, Mary Marshall of Portland; a brother, Edward Polk of Sebago; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held 11 a.m., Tuesday, at St. Luke’s Cathedral, 143 State Street, Portland. Burial followed at Forest City Cemetery, South Portland.
