James L. Burdwood

STANDISH — James Lyle Burdwood, 77, of Chadbourne Road, died on Monday, Aug. 29, 2011, at a Scarborough health care facility.
Born at Sebago Lake, in Standish, on Nov. 26, 1933, he was the son of John F. and Gladys (Thorne) Burdwood. He was raised and educated in Standish, and served his country during the Korean Conflict with the United States Air Force from 1952 until 1956.
Jim was employed for many years at W.H. Nichols in Portland, retiring from there in 1992.
For several years, in the late 80s, Lyle was the Harbor Master for the Town of Standish. In this position, Lyle spent weekends keeping order at the town’s busy boat ramp at Sebago Lake Station.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved to spend time with family and friends, and especially with his granddaughter, Kaylie, whom he adored.
A daughter, Cindy Lou Burdwood predeceased him in 1974. Two brothers, Subby and Richard Burdwood and one sister, Muriel Richardson also predeceased him. Survivors include his wife, Barbara A. (MacVane) Burdwood of Standish; one son, James S. Burdwood, of Naples, one daughter, Kathleen May Parker, of Hollis; one sister, Beverly Anderson of California; and his granddaughter.
There are no visiting hours. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 2, 2011, at the Dolby Funeral Chapel, 434 River Rd., Windham. Burial will be private.
