James Shaw

RAYMOND — James C. Shaw, 63, of Raymond, passed away at home Saturday, April 16, 2016 surrounded by his family, friends and dog Lily.

Jim was born to Marion and Wendell Shaw on May 5, 1952, in Quincy Mass. Jim spent his childhood and formative years growing up in Maine, where Jim’s father worked at Westbrook Animal Hospital. Jim grew to love animals and he was very knowledgeable about wildlife and nature. He gifted many children and curious adults with the knowledge of plant life, animal tracks and nature’s wonders as they walked through the woods with him.

The Shaw family raised Irish Setters and one was never far from Jim’s side.

Jim attended Westbrook High School, Class of 1971. After graduation, he joined the Navy and was commissioned on the USS Frigate Bird as a signalman. Following discharge, Jim attended University of Massachusetts at Amherst and was employed in sales in both pharmaceutical and food service industries.

Jim was a loving brother and uncle. He is survived by his sisters, Sharon of Raymond, Linda Shaw of Burlington Mass. and Susan Stanley of Raymond; his uncle; and nieces and many great-nieces and nephews.

Jim loved his time at Indian Pond and had a reverence and admiration for the work and character of woodsman Walter Arnold, whose cabin he owned at Indian Pond. His was ever present and a friend to all on Sebago Lake’s Whittemore Cove. He will be remembered for his gentle soul, warm smile and big heart.

A private celebration of Jim’s life will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be left at hallfhuneralhomeinc.com
