James A. Knox, 87

FALMOUTH — James “Jim” Allison Knox, 87, passed away at the Falmouth House in Falmouth, Maine, on Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2018, with his family, including his five great-grandchildren, at his side.

He was born on April 28, 1931, in Lynn, Mass.

Jim received his B.S. in Textile Manufacturing Sales from the Lowell Technological Institute in 1955. He enjoyed a successful career as a sales representative with the textile firms China Grove Cotton Mills and Dixie Yarns. He eventually formed his own firm, Knox Yarns, where he worked until retirement.

Jim was a devoted father to his three children, and a devoted husband to his wife Claire during their 56 years of marriage. They enjoyed their lives together, living it to the fullest whether traveling, playing tennis, skiing, or spending time with their family and grandchildren. Jim was by Claire’s side throughout her 14-month battle with colon cancer before her death in 2014.

Jim was an avid photographer, an interest that never waned even as his health declined. He participated in the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Southern Maine as an instructor of photography, photo exhibitor and student. He also volunteered for the Red Cross and at the Bridgton Hospital. Jim also was a member of the Bridgton Lions Club.

Jim is survived by his children, Mark (Claire) Knox of Salt Spring Island, British Columbia, Karen Knox of Portland, Maine, Jim (Becky) Knox of Morgan City, Alabama; and five grandchildren: Clinton, Sarah, Cassia, Joshua, Mahina (and her mother Suzanne Silvermoon). He is also survived by his sister Anne Marchand of Hampton, New Hampshire.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim's memory may be made to the Red Cross at the following link: https://www.redcross.org/donate/donation.html/

The Knox family wants to extend their gratitude to the nurses and caregivers of Falmouth House at Ocean View, and to Northern Light Home Care and Hospice for their fine care.
