Isabel P. Niles

SEBAGO, MAINE — Isabel P. Niles, 90, of North Sebago, Maine, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2010, at her home.

The daughter of Walter R. and Isabel (Waters) Paine, Belle was born in N. Providence, R.I., on Jan. 29, 1920, and raised in Springfield, Mass., with summers spent in North Sebago.

On June 18, 1940, she and Rev. Albert C. Niles married in Springfield. Mr. Niles passed away in November 2001.

After graduating from Classical High School in Springfield, Isabel attended St. Lawrence University for two years. Following her marriage, she coordinated and taught in the Sunday schools at the Universalist churches in South Weymouth, Mass., Auburn and Bangor, Maine, and Brockton, Mass., where her husband served as minister.

With their five children in school, she resumed her education at SLU when the family moved to Canton, N.Y., and graduated in 1962. She taught high school English in Russell and Dolgeville, N.Y., Bridgewater, Mass., and Auburn, Maine.

Mrs. Niles is survived by her children and their families: Dr. David Niles, of North Sebago, and Vera Cherpurnyk of Russia; Ann and her husband Nathan Mack of Dolgeville; Martha Carter of Wilbraham, Mass.; Jonathan Niles and his wife Anna Rodstrom of Sweden; and Walter Niles, with whom she resided in North Sebago.

Her grandchildren include Rebecca (Tom) Perkins, Steven (Tacey) Mack, Jennifer Mack, Jason (Jennifer) Carter, David Carter, and Veronika Niles. Great-grandchildren: Brandon, Matthew, and Shane Perkins, Isabel and Ava Mack, and Joshua Hunter. She is also survived by her sisters Betty Sawyer of North Sebago and Dotty Radebaugh of Falmouth, Maine, brothers-in-law John Radebaugh, Nathan Niles, and Richard Niles, and nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held in the spring at the convenience of the family.
