Irene F. Turner

CUMBERLAND CENTER — Irene F. Turner, 90, of Cumberland Center, died on Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010, at Mercy Hospital in Portland.
She was born in Brookline, Mass., on March 10, 1920, the daughter of Herbert and Helen (Buckley) Hartford. She married Donald A. Turner on May 31, 1939, in Portland.
Irene owned and operated Sammy’s Bar in Westbrook, Knotty Pines in Scarborough, and Last Chance Cafe in Portland. She retired in 1972.

In her leisure time she enjoyed knitting and playing beano and Yahtzee.

She was predeceased by her husband who died in 1992; three sisters, Mary Yankowski, Patricia Malia and Constance Hartford, and two brothers, Howard and Donald Hartford.

She is survived by four daughters, Donna B. O’Brien of Westbrook, Cynthia J. James of Westbrook, Debra L. Turner of Portland and Kimberly A. Meyers of Westbrook; a son, Howard D. Turner of Westbrook; a sister, Jean L. Badgery of North Raymond; 18 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours were held on Tuesday at Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland. Prayers were recited on Wednesday at the funeral home, followed by an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick’s Church, 1342 Congress Street, Portland. Burial took place at New Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.
