Howard W. Bryant, 102

FRYEBURG — Howard W. Bryant, 102, of Fryeburg and recipient of the Boston Post cane, died Friday, Jan. 20, 2017 at Fryeburg Health Care in Fryeburg, where he had been a resident since 2015.

He was born on Aug. 22, 1914, in Chatham, N.H., a son of Willis C. and Ethel (Guptill) Bryant and attended local schools.

Howard began his working career with Laconia Creamery and later as a forklift driver for CN Brown when they were in the wood harvesting business. For nearly 20 years, he worked as a milk driver for A.E. Bennett. In his retirement, he puttered in carpentry.

A “jack of all trades,” he could be trusted with the repair and construction of nearly anything out of his garage, regardless of the material.

Howard is survived by his daughter, Jane Hennessey of North Conway, N.H.; a granddaughter, a grandson, six great grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife of 70 years, Doris (Hartford) on May 14, 2010; a son, Carroll in 1948; three sisters, Florence Thomas, Myrtle Foster and Arlene Hamilton.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at the Chatham Center Cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of the Wood Funeral Home, 9 Warren Street, Fryeburg. Condolences and tributes may be shared at www.woodfuneralhome.org
