Hilda M. Day, 86

STANDISH — Hilda M. Day, 86, of Standish, died on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at The Cedars in Portland after a long illness.

She was born in Portland on May 15, 1926, the daughter of John and Hilda (Whitten) Myers. Hilda was married to Roland A. Day and devoted her life to her family. She was a wonderful and caring mother and wife who took great pride in keeping a spotless home, and providing the most delicious meals for her family. Together, Hilda and Roland have left their children with many fond memories of trips in the car, singing in harmony, and times spent at their camp on West Pond in Parsonsfield.

Hilda graduated from Deering High School and was a lifelong member of the Dawn of Hope Chapter O.E.S. #106 of Standish. She was a member of the East Limington Baptist Church, where she shared her lovely voice in the choir and in several Christmas programs and was a member of the Ladies Missionary Fellowship.

Hilda worked for a short time as a seamstress for the Hanold Co. and later as a file clerk for the Cumberland County Registry of Deeds.

She was predeceased by her husband, Roland A. Day; son, Bruce Day; brothers, John and Roy Myers; stepbrothers, George and Everett Jeffers; sisters, Margaret and Katherine Myers; and a grandson.

Hilda is survived by daughters Rosalind (Day) Dugans of Raymond and Rosemary (Day) Libby of Windham; stepdaughter, Donna (Day) Baril of Durham; and stepson, Roland A. Day Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla. She was blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she adored.

Visitation will be on Thursday, March 14, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. immediately followed by a funeral service at 7:30 p.m. at the Watson, Neal & York Funeral Home, 71 Maple Street, Cornish.
