Hilda Butterfield

NORWAY — Hilda “Lila” Butterfield, 89, of Norway peacefully passed away Friday, Jan. 29, 2016 at Stephens Memorial Hospital after an illness.

She was born at the farm on Island Pond Road in Harrison to John and Hilda Leino of Finnish decent. She was one of a family of 14. She was so proud of all of her nine brothers that served this country and returned to be honored in 2008 on Channel 13. 

She loved to call and chat with her sisters, who have that bond that no one can touch. 

She fell in love with her childhood sweetheart, Leslie and was married Nov. 29, 1947. They moved to Van Nuys, Calif. for a while and then returned to Maine.

She was a diligent worker at different factories in the area, finally retiring with Leslie from C.B. Cummings. Lila’s faith, her deep love for her family and her humor will always be carried on. She loved gardens, taking many photos, playing harmonica and just sitting with friends and/or family.

She is survived by her son, Dennis Butterfield of Norway; daughter, Donna Butterfield of Hampton, N.H.; and a grandson.

Memorial services were held on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Oxford Hills Funeral Services, 1037 Main Street, Oxford.
