SOUTH HIRAM — Helen Louise (Jahn) Collomy, 90, of South Hiram, died on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Helen was born on Nov. 14, 1922, in Illinois, the daughter of William and Emma Behrens Jahn. She grew up as the eighth of nine children in Souix City, Iowa. She married Sidney Collomy and they moved to Maine to raise their nine children.

She worked locally for many years until her retirement from Vulcan Electric in 1984. Helen enjoyed playing bingo, visiting casinos, quilting, gardening and painting. Her favorite past time was playing any card games with family and friends and she loved her Chihuahua “Penny.”

Helen was predeceased by her husband Sidney; sons, Bill and Raymond; a grandson; and all of her siblings.

She is survived by children Gloria Hermance, Mike Collomy and Blanche Collomy of Parsonsfield, Donald Collomy of East Baldwin, Lorraine Myers of Bangor, Janet Collomy and Cathy Berg of Fryeburg, and John Collomy of Waterboro; 19 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren with one on the way; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours were held on Sunday, Sept. 29, immediately followed by a funeral service at 4 p.m., at the Watson, Neal & York Funeral Home, 71 Maple Street, Cornish. Private burial will be at a later date.
