Guy Stickney

Guy O. Stickney Jr. 75, of Bridgton, died unexpectedly Friday morning, May 13, 2022, at his home in Bridgton.

He was born on July 9, 1947, in Farmington, the son of, Guy O. and Virginia Althea (LaDrette) Stickney Sr.

Guy was raised in Mexico, Maine, and attended local schools, graduating from Mexico High School in 1965. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served four years, returning home in 1970.

Upon his return one year later in 1971, he married Louise Hamilton in Mexico. He enrolled in Farmington Teacher’s College and graduated with a degree in education, which he put to immediate use in a teaching position in Livermore Falls and later back in the Mexico school system.

In 1987, he and Louise moved to Dexter and Guy taught in the local school system eventually serving as the assistant principal and athletic director. He also coached football, track, and women’s softball. After 17 years in Dexter, Guy came to Bridgton and served as the assistant principal at Lake Region High School and also as a coach. He retired from LRHS in June of 2017 only to take a math teaching position at Lake Region Middle School that fall. He retired for good in 2019.

Guy loved to fish and rarely traveled without his rod and reel in case a stream or pond caught his eye. He also enjoyed company of the European high school exchange students he and Louise hosted over the years, especially Peter Strom. He also cherished the time he spent on the sidelines, the bench in the woods and on the water with his dear friend and coaching partner, J.R. Warren.

He is survived by his wife, Louise of Bridgton; sister, Laurel Belanger of Sumner; several nieces and nephews;

A Memorial Service celebrating Mr. Stickney’s life will be held on Wednesday, June 8 at 5 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, UCC, Bridgton, 33 South High St., Bridgton. Following the service there will be a potluck dinner at the Lake Region High School in Guy’s honor. For those unable to attend, the church will be livestreaming the service at https://www.facebook.com/FirstCongregationalChurchBridgtonUcc. Interment will be at the Lakeview Cemetery in Wilton.
