PORTLAND — Grace T. Stillings, 84, died on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at The Gosnell House in Scarborough.

She was born on Nov. 20, 1929, in Rockland, the daughter of the late Eugene F. and Bertha L. Lawry Thompson. She attended Rockland schools graduating from Rockland High School, where she had been a member of the National Honor Society. She was a member of the last graduating class of the Maine General Hospital School of Nursing. Grace was a registered nurse having worked at the Maine Medical Center for 45 years and was a member of the Float Pool Retirees. She was a longtime communicant of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, where she was a member of the Episcopal Church Women, the Mercy Hearts, and was a very active church volunteer working on numerous activities. She also volunteered at the Maine Senior Games.

She was predeceased by her husband, Russell C. Stillings, in 2003; and two sisters, Lucy Suomela in 2003 and Glennice Simmons in 2011.

Grace is survived by her son, Robert G. Stillings of Raymond; a sister, Jennie Witham of Owls Head; a brother, Kenneth Thompson of Glen Cove; a granddaughter, Robyn Amanda Stillings of Raymond; nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford Street, Portland, on Wednesday. A Burial Office will be celebrated on Thursday at 11 a.m. from St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Washington Avenue, Portland. Burial will follow in Brooklawn Memorial Park, Portland.
