Glen A. Gisel Sr., 74

Glen Gisel Sr.

RAYMOND — Glen A. Gisel Sr., 74, of Raymond, died early Saturday morning, Feb. 8, 2020, at the Androscoggin Hospice House in Auburn, with his family by his side.

He was born on Jan. 25, 1946, in Fort Worth, Texas, a son of Emil and Evelyn (McLennan) Gisel. He attended school in Santa Cruz, Calif., and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Navy.

On Aug. 15, 1965, he married Judy Blake in Reno, Nevada.

Glen served our country as a Navy man for over 20 years. He and his family were stationed all over the country (and Europe) including San Diego, Calif., Memphis, Tenn., Patuxent River, Md., Jacksonville, Fla., Spain, and eventually Brunswick, Maine.

One of Glen’s passions was his involvement in the Boy Scouts and he regularly brought his Brunswick troop to Camp Hinds in Raymond. As word of his nearing retirement from the service spread to the Camp in the late 1980s, he was offered the position of Camp Ranger for Camp Hinds as his first civilian job. He and his family lived at Camp Hinds for 10 years before purchasing a home on Main St. in Raymond. For a time, he also worked as a Raymond school bus driver. He also volunteered for Raymond Fire & Rescue, and was Rescue Captain for nearly 10 years. He was also a member of the American Legion.

For the last 20 plus years, Glen has owned and operated Downeast Sharpening and Small Engine Repair, servicing countless locals’ small engine needs.

Glen was passionate about ham radio communications, a hobby passed down to him by his father. His call sign was WB7AGY.

He is survived by his wife, Judy, of Raymond; his son, Glen Jr. and his wife, Tammy, of Gray; 10 grandchildren, and one great-grandson; and brother, Wayne Gisel and wife Linda of Philomath, Ore. He was predeceased by his parents, and a granddaughter.

He was a true ‘jack of all trades’ but most of all a ‘master of love.’

A celebration of Glen’s life, including military honors will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 29, at the Raymond Fire Department, 1443 Roosevelt Trail, Raymond, ME 04071. Gifts in lieu of flowers may be made in Glen’s memory to Raymond Rescue. Arrangements are in the care of Hall Funeral Home, 165 Quaker Ridge Rd., Casco.
