PORTLAND — Gladys Idylle Michaud, 98, of Limington, passed away at Maine Medical Center in Portland on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2014.
One of eight children, she was born in Leeds on Dec. 3, 1915, the daughter of Bertelle and Ida Mae Danforth Morris. Gladys attended school in Leeds, graduated from Leavitt High School and then graduated from the University of Farmington with a bachelor’s degree in Education.
Working summers as a waitress in Ogunquit, she met one of the chefs, Edward L. Michaud, married him on Labor Day and then they took the train to Boston for a lifetime together. For 40 years, they lived in Stoneham, Mass. but returned to Maine to retire in Limington in 1978. They traveled throughout New England and spent a lot of time at their beloved cottage on Sebago Lake. She lived for her family, loved family get-togethers and loved nature. She also enjoyed collecting stamps, reading poetry, gardening, bird watching and sewing. She will be truly missed by all who knew her.
Her husband of 62 years died in 2000.
Gladys is survived by two sons, Leslie E. Michaud of Sweden and David L. Michaud of Winthrop; a daughter, Susan E. McCarthy of Hollis; a sister, Muriel Pratt of Turner; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Friends and family may call from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, 2014 at the Dennett, Craig & Pate funeral home, 13 Portland Road, Bar Mills. Burial will be at a later date.
