Gertrude E. Johnson, 78, of Bridgton, passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2015, at Bridgton Hospital with her family by her side.

She was born in Cornville on July 3, 1936, the daughter of Oscar and Nellie Lincoln Gilpatrick. She graduated from Potter Academy in 1955 and married Alvah F. Johnson Sr. on June 11, 1955.

She had been employed as a cook at Bridgton Elementary School and Camp Wildwood for many years. She loved gardening and cooking, and her home was always open to anyone in need. She always thought of others before herself. She enjoyed arts and crafts, knitting and crocheting. She also enjoyed jigsaw puzzles.

She is survived by her husband of Bridgton; sons Alvah F. Johnson Jr. and wife Nancy of Naples, Bradley K. Johnson of Bonifay, Fla., Kevin W. Johnson and wife Ann of Pace, Fla., and Daniel K. Johnson and wife Michelle of Bridgton; daughters Lorilyn Hodgkin and husband Ronald of Bridgton, and Tamylea Guptill and husband Terry of Fryeburg; 14 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

At her request there will be no services. Remembrance donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Maine, 383 US Route 1, Suite 2C, Scarborough, ME 04074.
