George Smith-Peterson, 67

CASCO — George Robert Smith-Petersen, 67, of Casco, passed away on Aug. 11, 2014, at Maine Veterans’ Homes in Scarborough.

He was born in Bridgeport, Conn., to Nils and Priscilla (Taylor) Smith-Petersen on March 26, 1947. From 1966-1970, he served as a mechanic in the U.S. Air Force. After leaving the Air Force, he worked for UPS as a supervisor, and shared ownership of a local cleaning company.

He was a skilled diver and talented baseball player in his younger years, and an avid bass fisherman as an adult. He loved singing, and very much enjoyed listening to and singing with the Downeasters Barbershop Chorus.

George is survived by his son, G. Andrew Smith-Petersen of Yarmouth; daughter, Carrie Tanguay of Windham; their mother, Theresa Smith-Petersen of Windham; brother Morten Smith-Petersen of Arizona; sister-in-law Beverly Smith-Petersen of Raymond; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his wife’s children, Robert Ahlemeyer of Buxton, Steven Dubowik of North Waterboro and Edward Ahlemeyer of Casco; and their five children.

He was predeceased by his wife, Lea (Ahlemeyer) Smith-Petersen; and his brother, Taylor Smith-Petersen.

At Mr. Smith-Petersen’s request, no funeral will be held.
