George G. Mattheson

SCARBOROUGH — George G. Mattheson, 74, of Portland, died on Monday, May 28, 2012, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House. He was the husband of Joanne (Marshall) Mattheson.

He was born in Machias on Oct. 13, 1937, the only son of the late George Mattheson and Priscilla (Cox) Mattheson of New Gloucester. He grew up in Edmunds, attending local area schools and graduated from Dennysville High School.

After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving four years before returning home. He married Joanne on June 21, 1969.

After serving his country he became a driver for Burns Fencing in Westbrook and then for Scarborough Auto Glass before having to retire due to illness in 2000.

Although he was not a fan of the water, he enjoyed fishing as well as hunting.

Besides his mother and his wife he is survived by two daughters, Stacy Brichetto of Portland and Michelle Mattheson of Raymond; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to a time of gathering and celebration of George's life on Thursday, May 31, 2012, from 3 to 5 p.m., at the Wilde Memorial Chapel in Evergreen Cemetery, 672 Stevens Ave., Portland.
