George E. Kernander, 61

SCARBOROUGH — George Evans Kernander, of Sebago, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012. He was born on Feb. 5, 1951 in Salem, Mass. to Warren and Ann Evans Kernander. He graduated from Masconomet Regional High School, where he loved basketball, track, and long jump. He graduated from University of Mass. Amherst in 1974 with a BS in political science. He was a member of SAE (Sigma Alpha Epsilon). He had a 35-year career in residential construction and house building in Mass. and Maine. He was a master carpenter and most of the homes around Trickey Pond in Naples, Maine, have his footprint.

He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America Troop 51 in Boxford Mass., achieving his Eagle Scout and Order of the Arrow in 1968. He was a  Major Sports Fan Loving the  Patriots, Celtics, Red Sox  and  NASCAR. He also loved playing cards, horse shoes and darts competitively. His kindness and generosity of spirit will be forever missed.

He is survived by his mother; his beloved life partner Alison Leonard and her son Thomas; a brother Warren N. Kernander of South Lyon, Mich.; a sister Marianne Kernander of Naples, Maine; a niece and nephew, Caitlin and Cullen Kernander; three cousins, Carl, Mary, and Joyce; and a beloved Aunt Mary (Heather) E. Fitzgerald of Arlington, Va.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 29th at 1 p.m., at Chandler Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 8 Elm St. Bridgton, with a time of visitation from 12 to 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be sent to the American Cancer Society, 1 Bowdoin Mill Island, Topsham, ME 04086.
