George B. Dubendris

LEWISTON — George Bernard Dubendris, 72, of Rumford, died on Sunday, May 22, 2011, at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

He was born in Rumford on Oct. 5, 1938, the son of Peter and Beatrice (Todd) Dubendris, and graduated from Mexico High School, Class of 1956.

George served with the U.S. Marines from 1957 to 1960 and also in the Army National Guard of Maine. He worked as a methods analyst in the Industrial Engineering Department at the Rumford Paper Mill until retirement in 1996 after more than 30 years.

He was an avid member of the AA for over 30 years and was active locally and on the state level, and had served as a sponsor, mentor and guide to many over the years. He was a ferociously independent thinker. George was known for his wit, sense of humor, and was a positive person. He loved his family and had many dear friends.

He was formerly married to Pauline Martin Dubendris of Oceanside, Calif.

Survivors include his daughter, Sherree Craig of South Thomaston; sons, Marty Dubendris of Oceanside, Calif. and Scott Dubendris of Sebago; four grandchildren; a brother, Peter Dubendris of Wrentham, Mass.

A celebration of his life will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 26, 2011, at the Meader & Son Funeral Home, 3 Franklin Street, Rumford. Friends are invited to call after 11 a.m. on Thursday prior to the service. Interment with Military Honors will be conducted at the Farrington-Morton Cemetery, Mexico.
